I tried blow drying my hair for the first time and it was okay, but not as striaght as when my hairdresser does my hair, plus the roots were nappy. Any tips on how to blowdry relaxed afro american hair, products to use etc will help. Thanks

get a thick comb and use the dryer on med. heat. start at the roots, don't comb all the way through it once you get the roots while you comb .. Then start at the ends of your hair and work up with it. My daughter is half black. He hair is more like black then white. But to be honest, i never used a blow dryer on my daughters hair. I would use a kiddie perm and then towel dry it and i would then use a curling iron. I would put hair grease in her hair, and then comb it, part it and use the heating comb or the curling iron. Her hair looked beautiful every-time.

Not to. Chemicals %26amp; excessive heat are extremely damaging to afro american hair. If you MUST use the blow dryer, do it when the hair is 3/4 of the way dry (by allowing it to air dry or sit under a traditional hair dryer), then blow it out on Med Heat setting, just so that it can get a straight concistancey. After that use your curling or flat iron for styling. when styling with styling irons, be patient, section the hair in smaller, thinner sections; your texture comes out better. Good luck!

When styling permed hair use curl activators or wave activators. These are rich moisture creams containing light oils which you can spray on your scalp and work through your hair before combing and styling.

If you straighten your hair try styling lotions which help provide a layer of moisture to protect your hair against heat damage and breaking.

Using the right combs and brushes when styling is vital for your hair's health. An afro comb/wide tooth comb is all you need to rid yourself of tangles.
