PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU ANSWER: a lot of sistas got offended when I asked the question why do you perm your hair and think whites don't notice who you are trying to be. Now I wanna know. If any of you sistas see this on the opposite end, because I don't, and I love nappy hair amongst us. Now to clarify how I feel on this is; I only think nappy hair is an issue amongst the females of our race, not the males and why is it I can't ask the question without bullshit answers. because I think most of you will not or chose to ignore the fact that some of them think you may want to be white. don't get me wrong the sista I'm with now has permed hair and she looks good dark and all. but most of my co-workers at work (whom happen to be white) do notice and have asked me why. I don't see it as being racist cause if they see it they must think it.

I am a black female transitioning to natural hair at the moment. I haven't read the responses to your question yet but I am sure most females are using the excuse of it being more "manageable." I personally don't buy it. I feel it is like a never-ending cycle of not knowing how to properly take care of natural hair. I at the same time don't think that most are trying to emulate white females either

to be honest i get a perm because i have very thick and short hair that i can barely put into a pony tail and im too old for little girl braids and it hurtz so much to comb it out so i perm it believe me i dont want to be white i proud to be black Report It

It is not nappy it is kinky.. I wear my hair natural all the time.. Nappy mean you don't comb your hair and it get knotted... Kinky is black women hair texture.

I find it very annoying that people think only white people have straight hair. What about hispanics, indians, and asians. Don't you ever stop to think we're being left out by having a different texture. Nappy hair isn't fun sorry. It's hard to style your hair that way. It also looks unkempt. I would rather have dreads.

I have what has been defined as nappy hair and I'm not changing it for anyone. Yes, that's me. Take me or leave me, it's alright with me. I'm much more than the hair on my head so with me you'll have to save the phrase, "What is a woman without hair?" for somebody else. I'm much more than just hair and I would like to think I can still look feminine without it, i.e my femininity is not dependent on how much hair I have or how long it is. Thanks.

Another thing is, why haven't we heard Chinese or any other Asians complaining that many black women are trying to be like them. After all black people have black hair which when straightened would look more like Asian, Latin American, Middle Eastern (or any peoples that have black hair) than white.

This does not include black females who put in blond extensions.

Why can't a woman get her hair done without it being a racial issue? Black/hispanic, and yes, even white women straighten their hair. Just like, black, white, asian, and hispanic women get curls.

it is a preference. SOme like their hair manageable. Its not about being white but I will say some have let society dictate how they dress, do their hair etc... I have natural hair. I use to relax my hair because I thought it would be easier to take care of. FOR ME it's easier to take care of it being natural. FOR ME it is something that I like it. It's not for everyone and I don't knock anyone else who does not like the natural thing. We all have things we like and dislike and that is ok.

Furthermore why would anyone care what someone else thinks about their hair. I don't care if the white people at my job like my hair or not. I'm confident with myself and I don't need anyone's approval on how I look.

I'm not going to get smart with you, I'm just gonna give you a real answer. black women like variety when it comes their hair. there are only so many things a person who wears their hair naturally can do with it. i have natural curly hair, and its curly all the time, but when i get a relaxer, my hair is straight, and i can do so much with it. to each its own.
