Why do black women criticize other black women for having nappy hair?

I could never understnad why other black women criticize black women with nappy hair, when it's natural for our hair to be that way, it's the healthiest way for our hair to grow because that's how it should originally be just like how white women and other races except their natural hair state why can't we do the same.

Why do black women criticize other black women for having nappy hair?

All hair textures are beautiful as long as they are taken care of properly. Whether it's curly, kinky, straight, or wavy.

As far as Black women criticizing other Black women because they have nappier hair...

Usually, it's to make themselves feel better or superior.

Because though they may have better hair than that particular female, they are lacking something that the other person has.

In other words, envy.

Why do black women criticize other black women for having nappy hair?

good question, it seems that most black women are mean to other black women when they are in groups of 3 or more.

Why do black women criticize other black women for having nappy hair?

I actually think african american women have interesting hair. It's pretty cool and it matches you guys. If they had straight silky hair, It wouldn't match them.. Well, some black women criticize other black women because it makes them feel better about themselves..ahh I dis like people like that.

Why do black women criticize other black women for having nappy hair?

Some learn it from others around them (mom, grandma, friends, etc)

Why do black women criticize other black women for having nappy hair?

I wear my hair "nappy" half of the time and I do perm it once in a while when i want a change. I decided long ago that I'm not going to live my life through other peoples eyes. Life is too short and to make matters worse i don't even know when I'm "going". It could be tomorrow so I do my own thing, let people have their opinion.

Why do black women criticize other black women for having nappy hair?

Some black women with a better grade of hair will do this sort of thing because their hair is less nappy, but I think it's very wrong to do. Understand I said "Some" not all. I think this type of thinking is "Superior Thinking", and they tend to think that just because their hair is better they will get more compliments and so forth. Just because someone has a better grade of hair doesn't mean that they look better or that they are better. As long as a black women keeps her hair healthy and done then that makes her and her hair beautiful. I'm a black woman with a nice grade of hair, but I never in my whole life think that I'm better than the next black woman with a different grade of hair. There are better things in life to do than to sit back and worry about who's hair is the best and so forth. I understand where your coming from, and I do agree with some of what you said.

Why do black women criticize other black women for having nappy hair?

Sometimes it can be the other way around as well. Either way I think it's stupid because at the end, it just hair and as long the woman takes good care of it, natural or relaxed really matters at the end. Besides us blacks should be focusing on other issues concerning our race that needs to be addressed other than criticizing how we wear our hair.

Why do black women criticize other black women for having nappy hair?

I don't understand it either. Just like I don't understand why women have to be so mean towards each other. *u*

Why do black women criticize other black women for having nappy hair?

there insecure

Why do black women criticize other black women for having nappy hair?

You have asked an excellent question. Unfortunately, there is only one answer, so far, that even remotely touches on the answer. Choqlatqt said that we get it from Mom and Grandma鈥?Friends鈥? Everyone else seems to give the generic answer that they just want to feel superior or they are just mean. There are a few black people on this thread that have actually baught into that Good hair Bad hair stuff. Read La Princesa鈥檚 answer and Read Passion鈥檚 answer. Very subtly they let you know that the have baught into it.

Why do we do it? Don Imus was not the first one to call a Black woman a nappy headed wh*r*. The slave master looked at the black woman as a lustful woman to the point that he would justify his actions against her (we all know what those actions were) by saying that she deserved it because of her lustful nature.

Don Imus made this a racial issue by using 鈥淣鈥?word鈥? 鈥淣appyhead鈥? In the Americas, we (Black People) were ridiculed constantly, for 450 years (and to this very day) For having 鈥淏ig Lips鈥? 鈥淏ig Noses鈥?鈥淏ig Butts鈥?Big鈥? And yes, 鈥淣appy Hair鈥?Black people hated the concept of Nappy hair so much that finally Madam CJ Walker invented the pressing comb. She figured out that if we set our hair on fire, it would straighten out. She, form what I understand, was the first Black Millionaire.

To add to Choqlatqt鈥檚 answer, I would have to ask; where did Mom and Grandma learn that Nappy was Bad and Curly and Straight was Good? They learned it from their mother and grandmother who learned it from the slave master. Just like how we learned to love to eat chitterlings, We learned to hate ourselves (including but not limited to our hair)

So today, to answer your question, sista鈥檚 put down other sista鈥檚 with 鈥渘appy hair鈥?because it reminds them of what they are trying to escape from. When they see that black woman with the Good鈥?Nappy hair, it reminds them that that 鈥淧ermanent鈥?that they just put into their hair ain鈥檛 so permanent. In fact at best they should call it a 鈥淭emporary鈥?because just like the jungles of East Asia (aka Africa) nature will grow right back and remind you that 鈥渢hose nappys aint going nowhere.鈥?br>

When I see my black sisters walking down the street or driving in their car or in the store鈥?and they have that style called 鈥淏one Straight鈥濃€? I want to cry. They look foolish.
