Where in the world did black hair = bad hair?! The only thing bad about our hair is how people treat it by shunning it similar to the way black peoplewere shunned about their skin color. People are also being too impatient to take care of it correctly - But all good things are worth time.

No, your hair will never stop growing in its natural texture. It's in your genetics. What you can do to make you hair more MANAGEABLE is use the correct products and process.

Most of those products and processes are intended for white peoples hair. African Amercan hair is versatile (holds lots of styles), but is more fragile to dryness. Stop using Head and Shoulders ASAP and dont go washing your hair everyday either.

Find Hair products intended for Black hair like Barner Brothers, Botanics, African Pride, Organics.. If you dont have a black beauty supply store near you will find these in a limited selection of the Wal-Mart under African American Hair Care.

You need to condition your hair very well as a Black person in an American climate. Use heavy conditioner everytime you wash and moisturize your scalp every day to every other day with natural oils like almond oil that is light, coconut oil which is very light or extra virgin oil which is heavier (not "grease" made from petroleum it will clog your pores). They heavier the moisturizer, the less often you apply it to your scalp.

If you want your hair straight I recommend pressing it with hotcomb over getting the perm because tho the perm/relaxer is more permanent, if you do not keep up the maintenance (very tidious) then you will end up with damaged ends. However, both will compromise the strength of your hair and possibly prevent the treat sections from napping again, though your new growth will be nappy.

I recommend you go on this site www.nappturality.com and talk to the community of loving folks on there who will help you understand taking care of and loving your hair the way it is. They are VERY helpful. They are all naturals- people who have embraced and worked with their natural nappy hair.

WOW MeansToAFriend! That was a very powerful answer. Being a naptural myself the website you recommended was great. I have one more to contribute www.motowngirl.com. I hope that this helps you. Report It

Most Black people have nappy hair. I'm Black and I have nappy hair. Nappy hair is OK; it's coarse and thick and when cared for properly, is BEAUTIFUL. Keep your hair clean and your scalp greased. I don't know if you wear a perm, or press it, or wear it naturally, but clean is always the answer.

My brother used to use a wave cream found in the store. He used that wave cream everynight and wore a stocking cap to bed. After a few weeks, his hair grew 'waves.' After he stopped that, it went back to nappy. He didn't look any better with the waves. He was already cute!!

Please don't say "nappy/bad hair". This sounds like Black people have 'bad' hair and everybody else has 'good' hair. That just simply is not true. Black people and our hair are as attractive as everybody else. That sounds like something from slavery and you are too young to be talking like that. This is 2007. It sounds like something my grandmother would've said; though she meant no harm.

Remember James Brown said it best ~ "Say it Loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud!" ;-)

I'm afraid baby no there isn't. However don't fight your hair, it will only make things worse. I'm a hair stylist and I've done lots of black hair. I personally thing you guys have it great since its thick and course. There is alot to work with and you don't have to worry about some problems I do. I don't like relaxers, their too harsh. Look into the chi straightening system if your looking to straighten permanently. However I just recommend the Marcel Irons. Black hair can be so creative, I know one thing, If I did the Marcel irons like you guys do, my hair would be flat in no time.

Nappy hair is nothing to be ashamed of. Despite the way I was brought up. Just wash it when you bath or shower and use Hair Food or something to keep it oiled.

Black hair - nappy hair - does not equal bad hair..

What it's "good" if its all long, loose, and swinging like white peoples.

I'll take it easy on you because you're 13... but you're insulting yourself and other black people by calling the hair that grows out of your scalp "the way God made it" bad.

It's the way you were born sweetie... you can't change your genetics. it will NEVER grow in curly or straight if thats not your natural texture.

You can however work with what you've naturally got and use products that will hydrate your hair and keep it really soft. Ditch the head and shoulders, it's much too drying, and it's a dandruff shampoo (you don't have bad dandruff do ya) ??

Try Pantene relaxed and natural shampoo and conditioner (ALWAYS use a conditioner)
