dont you realize that!? Ladies, your hair is beautiful, stop letting people who dont understand our hair tell you that your hair is nappy. Sure, we put relaxers and scalp conditioners on our hair, but our hair is beutiful natural as well. Be proud of your hair. As long as you take care of it, you don't have to be shamed!

btw, there is nothing wrong with hair extensions, if that is what you want to do, so be it!

Nappy hair is hair that is unkempt..Black women have tightly curled hair that can be very beautiful but only IF you take care of it. Thanks for posting this topic I think a lot of women of races would appreciate this post!

Even though on the outside I'm white I do have ethnic hair. My grandfather is American Indian. And, I ended up with very wiry hair. Growing up in a typical caucasion family -- no one knew what to do with my hair. So, I got many many many home permanents given by my mom.

Which dried out my hair. And, cause my hair to become even more unmanagable. Pretty much most of my life I was a walking afro.

Until a lovely african-american beautician who did my hair for my wedding taught me how to use a straight iron. I never heard of such a thing!! Lol. Then I discovered Carol's Daughter...omg - I have beautiful hair for the first time in my 28 years. Its so silky and soft :))

Then how come men can't get away with that mentality? What is the point of your view of being natural and accepting when you put something false in your hair? I mean the nails, makeup bla bla bla. Not that it really matters but for sake of this argument you sound lik you are torn.

I totally agree! "nappy" is not, and should never be considered "ethnic" though. Nappy is considered anyone who does not take care of their hair. The fly aways, frizzies, or knots (NOT nappy curls) are all considered naps in every ethnic. Curls are beautiful, some just need a little attention. Some days I spend more time on my hair and some days I don't. And extensions are great for any ethnic person as well! H*ll, if I could afford them, I'd have some like Jessica Simpson, to add extra length and curl. So, YOU GO GIRLS and DO WAT YA LIKE!

I really agree. My avitar has straight hair but I sure as hell don't. I love my natural hair, I have straightened it but only because I wanted a change and not because I saw anything wrong with having black hair. Though some people really do. I sometimes hear some black people say, "Oh so-and-so has GOOD hair." Just because their hair is naturally straight or wavy. My hair is GOOD because it is healthy, beautiful, and all me! It helps that my man loves it too but that's another story!

It's just like when I go shopping for shampoo and it says on the bottle, "For Normal Hair". WTF is normal hair anyway?
