You might not like your hair curly, but if you want to see how it would look before you run out and get a perm. Next time you wash and condition your hair, towel dry it, then roll it on perm rods. The more rods, the more curl. At least this gives you an idea of the curls. To dry your hair, go sit in a breeze way and let it dry on its own. This may take a couple of hours, but it is worth the look.

When it is thoroughly dry, remove the perm rods.

DO NOT use a brush on your hair, it will only make it frizz.

Use your fingers to pull the curls out. I used to use chopsticks or knitting needles to style my hair. Or use one of those long tooth combs, I think they were called, "picks". Use this to style and lift out the curls.

I did this in the 80s, my hair was really long and I didn't have the money to get a perm.

Just stop relaxing it. Relaxing your hair doesn't take all of the curl out it just makes life easier when you try to straighten it. Perming it wouldn't be a good idea, way too much chemical on your hair.

To help it keep a nice curl you need a good curling gel or cream to put in it after you wash it. Some people use a diffuser to get some of the water out of their hair but most just let it air dry.

Here are some ideas for you. They all involve setting in some kind of way. You might want to try them all for different effects.

1. I saw this on a TV show: While your hair is clean and towel dried, if it still has some wave to it and not bone straight, you could twist it in little square sections. Oh, put some mousse or some spray styling lotion to hold the curl. Just take a small 1/2 in by 1/2 inch square at a time and twirl. Move on all over the head. Allow to air dry or use a diffuser on a blowdryer and gently dry the hair - best to leave it as natural as possible. Then when it's dry, run your fingers though and you might have sexy soft wavy tendrils.

2. Go to a beauty supply store. Get some long foam spiral rollers - thickest available and get maybe 15 or so, enough for your set. Once again, have your hair clean, towel dry, dry a little with a dryer. Then add some mousse or spray setting lotion, take larger/maybe 1 inch squares at a time. Begin at the ends, wrap around each other to hold the ends in, then wind up to your scalp. Bend the top of the roller down to secure in place. Maybe even use different sized rollers to get various size curls. You can also use more or less hair for nice results too. Don't do too much. It just won't work. Again allow to air dry completely (2 hours) or use a diffuser on at blow dryer to set it.

3. Same methods as above, wash, towel dry, maybe even blow it dry a little. It needs to be sorta damp. Not wet - it won't work right. Your hair will never dry or hold the curl/wave. Apply the product/mousse/styling lotion, now for the fun stuff. Have some small rubber bands on hand, maybe 15/20. Take a 1 to 1 1/2 inch square section. Braid it, many ways to do, rope style, standard 3 section style: over under. Begin at the scalp and work your way to the end in standard braiding. Then affix the band. You can take larger sections on this method, but take various portions small and large for variety-natural look. Then like above, allow to air dry, diffuser method, or . . . since no roller is involved and you won't squish the braids, sleep on it. It should be dry in the AM. Then, run your fingers through gently here and there. Too much will make it frizz.

For all the above methods you can add a nice silicone spray or serum to make it look glossy and separate sexy pieces.

Happy experimenting!

waste of money probably but what about those hair styling products that PROMOTE to give curyly hair. different shampoos, conditioners, gels, sprays, mousse, stuff like that do they work?
